Prepaid ATM – a new option to pay for online gambling?

Since February 2002 there is a new way to pay online. It’s called Prepaid ATM (www.prepaidatm.com)

“Two Cards...One Account...Does It All! ATM, Debit, Bank, Virtual & Money Transfer Card"
That’s how the card is advertised on their website.

In order to use their system you will have to open an account and transfer money to it. The transferred funds will then be available for online purchases of all kinds. Also transfers between Prepaid ATM account holders are easily processed and your Prepaid ATM card will work just like a debit card, so it also can be used offline in any store for any kind of purchase. It’s the first debit card not tied to an individual bank.

Would this card be a new way to fund your online gambling accounts?
The casinos are looking into it and some are already starting to implement the required systems, so Prepaid ATM will be an option at least at some casinos in the near future. Comparing Prepaid ATM to established payment methods in the gambling industry such as Paypal or Firepay, we can find one major advantage: Next to online checks, western union and some other options, the use of Visa or MasterCard to transfer funds to your Prepaid ATM is available. So it should be possible to fill your Prepaid ATM card with funds from your Visa/MC and later use them for gambling, even if your Credit Card Issuing bank does not (directly) accept gambling related transactions. Some of you may know that this was the major advantage of Paypal in the beginning, until Paypal started not allowing some bank’s credit cards for gambling. So the question remains how long this option will stay available. After questioning we were told that most banks will treat payments to Prepaid ATM as purchases, but some banks may still post them as cash advances, so it is always recommended to ask your bank. As of right now Prepaid ATM is only available to U.S. citizens. There are some small fees incurring when you fund your account. Most costs however are covered from the merchant. The card itself is free.

Please also note that the minimum amount you can transfer to a casino is $50.

Prepaid ATM is currently available at:

Casino Las Vegas ..... (Software from Playtech)
Casino King ..... (Software from Playtech)
Omni Casino ..... (Software from Cryptologic)
Prime Casino ..... (Software from Microgaming)
Piggs Casino ..... (Software from Microgaming)
